Wait… what’s a Washafarian?
On November 6, 2012, Washington state voters passed Initiative 502 into law. Initiative 502 legalized small amounts of marijuana-related products for adults 21 and over, taxes the sale of marijuana, and designates the tax revenue for healthcare and substance-abuse prevention and education.
Washafarian is a brand designed to play off Washington’s liberal laws in a non threatening manner. The products will attempt to reach the target audience of tourists and liberals without any offending direct overtures to drug culture.
If a tourist goes to Amsterdam, they want to come back with an Amsterdam t-shirt. I believe tourists visiting Washington will want to come home with a memento to cherish the visit; hence the Washafarian brand and its products. This is a niche that is wide open to a tastefully presented product line.
Washafarian respects the Rastafari philosophy, values, and virtues. Washafarian has absolutely no affiliation, relationship to, or support from the Rastafari.Washafarian uses the suffix “ian” in part to make known it’s capitalist “for profit” nature of business. This name was actually chosen to distance Washafarian from genuine Rastafari.
In addition, there is no “t” in the trade name in further effort to distance from Rastafari.Washafarian is a clothier and retail sales company that embraces Washington’s passing of initiative 502 for taxing and economic stimulus.
Washafarian is not related to any philosophy, or religion.
